This panel will explore trends and innovations in energy technology that are driving change in how we power the economy, including distributed solar power, electrification of transportation, and hydrogen production at existing nuclear facilities. The team will share their thoughts on new technology and digital solutions that will provide customers with more control over their energy usage, and will discuss how advances in technology are reshaping markets and upending long-standing business models.

Brett C. Carter is executive vice president and Chief Customer and Innovation Officer. Carter oversees a broad division driving customer engagement and organizational innovation, leading teams focused on marketing, customer service, information technology, cyber and physical security, brand strategy and innovation and transformation efforts. With a vision to match transformative technology with frictionless experiences, Carter is reimagining how the Company evolves customer relationships. His direction will position Xcel Energy as a leader in energy innovation across all industries.

Emmett Romine is the Vice President of Customer Solutions & Innovation at Xcel Energy. In his role Emmett leads corporate economic development, demand management, renewable choice and the creation of innovative solutions that exceed the unique needs of residential and commercial customers. Before joining Xcel Energy in 2019 Emmett previously held a leadership role at Powerley, a technology company that provides utilities with solutions aimed at bridging the smart grid to the smart home. He has 20 years of utility industry experience with 13 years at DTE Energy working in areas including distribution operations, continuous improvement, finance and energy efficiency.

Michael Gersack is the Vice President of Innovation and Transformation at Xcel Energy. In this role Michael leads Xcel Energy’s continuous improvement, business innovation, and employee experience transformation programs. Michael previously served as Vice President of Customer Care with Xcel Energy leading all customer service, billing, credit, and meter reading functions. He joined the company in 1999 and has since held leadership positions within Customer Care and Finance supporting various operating functions including customer, transmission, distribution, and complimentary products and services. Prior to Xcel Energy, Michael held financial leadership positions with Kinder Morgan in management consultant.

Nadia El Mallakh is the Area Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Ventures at Xcel Energy. In her role, Nadia designs and leads the company’s efforts to identify and create partnerships focused on innovative solutions for customers. Nadia also oversees the electric vehicle team at Xcel Energy. Prior to this role, Nadia led the development and implementation of Energy Future Collaborations at Xcel Energy which allow communities and Xcel Energy to partner on key community priorities including economic development, sustainability, environmental objectives and smart city technology deployments. She first joined Xcel Energy in 2007 to practice real estate law leading the real estate legal team. Before joining Xcel Energy, Nadia was in private practice at several international law firms including Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP.
