The Great Northern Culinary Experiences

Jan 26-Feb 5
Various locations

The Great Northern is thrilled to partner with local restaurants and bars who will craft specialty culinary moments to complement festival programming Jan 25-Feb 5. Explore winter-in-the-North inspired food and beverage offerings from Saint Dinette, Blue Plate Restaurants, Giulia, and more—plus curated cocktails by celebrated mixologists, and thrilling bar activations ("ice shots," anyone?). Explore city-wide offerings below.

Giulia at Hotel Emery

Stop by Giulia during The Great Northern Winter Exchange at Hotel Emery to enjoy The Northern Hotdish Pizza ($22), which includes savory garlic mushroom sauce, mozzarella, smoked provolone, smoked cheddar, Peterson's ground beef, tator tots, green beans, and wild mushrooms. The dish will be available during The Great Northern Jan 25-Feb 5. Giulia will donate 10% of proceeds from sales of this dish to The Great Northern.

Blue Plate Restaurants

In celebration of Winter in Minnesota and all around the world, Blue Plate Restaurants will offer a limited-time menu inspired by Winter Wonderland with the Minnesota Orchestra, presented as part of The Great Northern Jan 29 at Orchestra Hall. The specially crafted Winter Wonderland Menu will be available Jan 25-Feb 5 at participating Blue Plate Restaurant locations: The Lowry, The Freehouse, Longfellow Grill, Edina Grill, and Highland Grill. For every Winter Wonderland menu item purchased, Blue Plate will donate $1 to The Great Northern.

The menu:

  • Chocolate Mint French Toast
French toast, chocolate whipped cream, crushed candy canes, powdered sugar ($13.95)

  • Swedish Meatball Pot Pie
Swedish meatballs, gravy, onions, red potatoes, puff pastry, oven roasted carrots, red wine reduction ($15.95)

  • Marshmallow Pudding

Saint Dinette

Inspired by the flavors of Montreal, and the interactive installation Our Common Home by Montreal-based studio Iregular, Saint Dinette’s chef has crafted the Pommes de Terre Casserole— a potato skin loaded with tator tot hotdish. Additionally, two special cocktail offerings highlight a blend of flavors inspired by the North.

The cocktails:

  • L'Étoile du Nord: Aquavit, crème de violette, St-Germaine, pear, lime

  • Canadian Cold Press: Bourbon, Luxardo Amaro, maple syrup, house made cold press

Malcolm Yards Market

Stop by Malcolm Yards Market Jan 26-Feb 5 or during The Great Northern’s Sauna Village and closing night party to enjoy the following specials:

Nicholas Kosevich (Earl Giles): “The Shortest Day”
Earl Giles gin, honey lemon chamomile elixir, cinnamon syrup, cherry bark vanilla bitters, Gold Liquid Disco, and Lemon Disco Citrus

Ice Shot Wall
Do a shot, take a shot! Unique ice shot glasses give you the opportunity to take a drink and lob the empty vessel at targets on Malcolm Yard Markets’ outdoor ice wall. Featured shots include Bacardi Mango Chile and a Surly Brewing tasting flight of three beers.
