Sewing circles create an opportunity for residents to build a community around skills that directly combat the climate crisis and build meaningful dialogue around collective action. Curiosity Studio’s founder Lauren Callis will provide a deep dive on the clothing cycle and its ecological consequences. She will then teach participants different techniques for mending clothes using scrap fabric. Attendees also have the option of bringing a garment with holes, rips, or stains they would like to preserve. As the group mends, conversation invites participants to consider opportunities for individual and systemic action built upon relationships and support instead of shame and fear.
Curiosity Studio is a creative learning studio that provides programming encouraging participants to play, reflect, and connect with themselves and the world through art-making. They use an art therapy and trauma-informed model that offers tools to incorporate creativity into daily life as a means to tackle difficulties that arise and encourage self and community care.
