Nicholas Martin is Director of Strategic Outreach & Advocacy on Xcel Energy’s Northern States Power Minnesota regulatory team. He and his team lead efforts to promote equity, affordability and decarbonization across a broad range of regulatory proceedings. He co-led the Company’s Equity Stakeholder Advisory Group, which developed a pilot providing automatic bill credits for energy burdened households, and currently chairs the Environmental Justice Accountability Board, which is working to reduce energy burden through energy efficiency and workforce development. Mr. Martin oversees reporting on the Company’s affordability programs, electric and gas service quality reporting, a program to support community resilience through microgrids, and outreach to Tribal Nations. In the decarbonization area, he supports compliance with Minnesota’s nation-leading 100 percent carbon free electricity by 2040 law, and helped develop pilots for the Company’s Natural Gas Innovation Act plan to decarbonize natural gas use in Minnesota. Prior to joining Xcel Energy, Mr. Martin worked in the international economic development field, in natural resources for American Indian tribes, and in carbon offset markets. He serves on the Minnesota Environmental Quality Board, Saint Paul Climate Justice Advisory Board, and board of directors of American Indian OIC. He holds an M.S. in Energy & Resources from the University of California at Berkeley and a B.A. in Music from Yale University.
