Founder, Melanin in Motion, Anthony Taylor is a placemaker, advocate, and community developer whose work bridges climate, culture, and equity. As founder of Melanin in Motion, he is reimagining the relationship between people, place, and the planet—expanding access to outdoor recreation and climate resilience for communities historically excluded from public lands and environmental investment. His programs bring families of color into skiing, cycling, and snowboarding at Theodore Wirth Park and beyond, modeling what an inclusive, climate-smart outdoor culture can look like in urban America. Anthony’s leadership spans both grassroots and systems levels. He serves on the Metropolitan Council Parks and Open Space Commission, the Governor’s Council on Aging Well, and the AARP Minnesota Executive Council, advancing policies that align health, environmental justice, and intergenerational access to nature. As Director of Equitable Development for the Cultural Wellness Center, he leads initiatives such as the Dreamland Cultural Wellness Project, a $3 million state-supported redevelopment aligning climate goals with cultural and economic regeneration in South Minneapolis. Named a Public Health Hero by the City of Minneapolis and recipient of the Reuel Harmon Lifetime Achievement Award from the Parks and Trails Council of Minnesota, Anthony’s work has been featured in Men’s Journal, The Snowboarder’s Journal, Star Tribune, and Burton Snowboards’ Mystery Series. His lifelong mission—captured in both action and philosophy—is to restore balance between people and nature, proving that climate solutions must also be community solutions.
