North House Folk School: Wood Turning Demonstration & Traditional Northern Craft Exhibit, Living with Craft

Sun, Feb 5, 12-4 pm
Gallery of Wood Art, Landmark Center

Inhale the sweet aroma of fresh Northern Minnesota birch as artist Paul Linden demonstrates green woodworking at the American Association of Woodturners' Gallery of Wood Art.

Currently on display, the exhibition Living with Craft features work by nine past and present resident artisans of North House Folk School, located in Grand Marais. North House offers short courses in traditional northern crafts, including woodworking, basketry, textiles, boatbuilding, metalwork, and more. Though the average student spends a few days to a few weeks immersed in learning craft at the school, North House also hosts the two-year Artisan Development Program, focused on nurturing the growth of the next generation of master craft artisans. Living With Craft explores how traditional craft connects to modern life, inviting the visitor to consider how handmade objects can contribute to their own sense of place.

Stop by the Gallery of Wood Art to visit the exhibit throughout The Great Northern Jan 26-Feb 5. Gallery hours:

Wed, 12-4 pm
Thur, 12-7 pm
